History is the study of life in society in the past, in all its aspect, inrelation to present developments and future hopes. It is the story of man intime, an inquiry into the past based on evidence. Froma philosophical perspective, the past is inaccessible to us or as far as it isaccessible, it is at least not available to us in the same way the present isavailable to us. History is a creation; it is not mere copying.The idea ofhistory is that we can actually learn more about the past, one of askingquestions and further questions based on their tentative answers.The History Department aims to make the students aware of the past and its legacies through teaching, research and extension activities in Indian history in the context of world history.

VISION:-The Department of History will be nationally and internationally recognized for educating undergraduate history majors about the importance of understanding the past in any society, and for teaching them critical, analytical and research skills applicable to numerous potential career paths.

MISSION:-The missions of the Department of History is to offer excellent B.A. program. The B.A. program will prepare students for careers that involve research, synthesis and analysis; as teachers and archivists; and for admission to graduate or professional school.
